Frank Peter Zimmermann is widely regarded as one of the leading violinists of his generation, celebrated for his deep musical insight, technical brilliance, and artistic integrity. For over four decades, he has performed with the world’s foremost orchestras and conductors across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Australia.
Zimmermann appears with leading ensembles including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Staatskapelle Dresden, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bayerisches Rundfunkorchester, Filarmonica della Scala, and several orchestras in China and Hong Kong, working with conductors such as Dima Slobodeniouk, Daniele Gatti, Alain Altinoglu, Alan Gilbert, and Long Yu. He also gives recitals with pianist Dmytro Choni in cities including Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Vienna.
Zimmermann’s acclaimed discography spans nearly the entire violin repertoire, with recent recordings on BIS featuring works by Stravinsky, Martinů, Bartók, J.S. Bach, and Beethoven (with Martin Helmchen).
A passionate chamber musician, he founded Trio Zimmermann with Antoine Tamestit and Christian Poltéra, performing widely and releasing award-winning recordings.
He plays the 1711 Stradivari “Lady Inchiquin”, generously loaned by Kunststiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen.
