The German-born cellist of Peruvian-Uruguayan descent is regarded as one of the leading musicians of his instrument. A student of Boris Pergamenschikow, Claudio Bohórquez won international competitions early on, such as the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition in Moscow and the Rostropovich Competition in Paris. In 1995, he took first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition, launching his solo career. He taught at the Stuttgart University of Music and was appointed to the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin in 2016.

Orchestral performances have taken him to the world’s leading ensembles, including appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington and in South America. Bohórquez has consistently demonstrated his mastery of chamber music, performing with composer/clarinetist Jörg Widmann and in a string trio with Daishin Kashimoto and Amihai Grosz. In addition to numerous CD recordings, radio and television broadcasts, Bohórquez contributed to Paul Englishby’s soundtrack for the film Ten Minutes Older – The Cello, which was shown in cinemas worldwide. Together with painter Klaus-Peter Kirchner, he developed the installation project Raum für Pablo Casals as a tribute to the great cellist.

From 2015 to 2023, he directed the Schlosskonzerte in Winnenden, and from the 2024/25 season, he will take on the role of artistic director for the Deutschordenskonzerte.
