German bass Christof Fischesser grew up in a musical family and studied voice at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. After early engagements in Karlsruhe, Berlin, and Zurich, he established himself as an internationally sought-after bass.
His most important roles include Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier), König Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Hunding (Die Walküre), Rocco (Fidelio), Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), and Blaubart (Herzog Blaubarts Burg). He performs regularly at major venues like the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Opéra national de Paris, the Teatro Real Madrid, and the Bavarian State Opera, as well as at the Salzburg Festival and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
In the 2026/27 season, his performances include Landgraf Hermann (Tannhäuser) in Zurich, Gurnemanz and Pogner in Vienna, and Orest (Elektra) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
As an active concert singer, his repertoire features Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Brahms’ Vier ernste Gesänge. He has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Kent Nagano, Kirill Petrenko, and Fabio Luisi. His artistic work is documented on numerous CD and DVD productions.
